Haunted Bridges

Bridges have been built and used for centuries to make travel from point A to point B easier or even to make it possible at all.  With all the years bridges have been around, it is impossible to avoid events that could cause a bridge or the area near a bridge to experience some strange events.  There are a ton of alleged haunted bridges all across the United States and as all over the world. There are just as many stories about the paranormal stuff that happens on or near these bridges and the history of why these things occur.

Some of the bridges are old and creepy looking; some of them are newly built and fairly modern expanses. There are highway bridges, railroad bridges, and even pedestrian bridges.  In a few cases, the bridges are no longer even there, but the spirits and tales remain.

Legends tell tragic tales of lives lost due to devastating accidents, disasters, suicides or even murder. Most of these legends have been around for generations. Various conflicting stories are often told about what exactly the haunting is and what caused it.

Investigators investigate, curious kids stake the place out hoping for a scare. Although we will most likely never know for sure what exactly is going on at these locations, as technology improves, more and more evidence is being recorded which makes us more able to take a step towards some sort of explanation.

We read about and researched a ton of haunted bridges. Here are a few:

Choctawhatchee River Bridge – Newton, AL

A shallow hole near the bank of this bridge is said to be haunted. For decades, whenever someone fills the hole in, it will be empty again within a day. Even highway workers have attempted to fill the hole, but to no avail.

Old Birdsboro Bridge – Baumstown, PA

This bridge near Baumstown, PA has been haunted for more than a century. Eyewitness say the ghost of a woman wearing a veil has appeared to drivers as they approach the bridge. Buggy riders would see her encouraging them to cross the bridge. Several witnesses reported she spoke to them about the reality of life after death.

Elmore Bridge – Elmore, OH

This bridge was built in the early 1900’s and is located in this city of Elmore, Ohio. The bridge runs on Toledo street or Ohio 51 over the Portage River. The haunting is said to be attributed to a motorcyclist who was involved in an accident on this bridge on March 21, possibly in 1918–the exact year is unknown.
