The city of Elizabethton, TN sits on the eastern tip of Tennessee, about four miles east of Johnson City. The old, steel-girder bridge that spans the Watauga River on the road between Elizabethton and Watauga Lake is said to be haunted by a ghoulish phantom.
Back in the 1930’s, a young couple looking for some alone time under the bridge were stabbed to death by a still unidentified psycho. Reports say the ghastly apparition appears as a hooded figure in a monk’s robe with a skull face. Over the past 7 decades, people have encountered the creepy monkish figure in the dark shadows under the bridge near Stony Creek.
